If I ever get tired of it on my camera, all simply have to do is take the CF card out and reformat it.
All of my camera buddies really think the new features are cool and were worth the hack. My camera is old enough that voiding the warranty is not an issue and if I broke it trying to flash a "hacked" firmware, then I was ready to buy a new camera.īut so far the hack works great and opens some new doors for my camera. Make sure it's safe and what you want before you try. I would do some research first before you hack.

Then you will likely find the instructions on how to do it. All you have to do is Google your particular camera and see if there is a "patch" or "hack" for it. It also unlocks spot metering, which is very useful.įlashing firmware on Canon's is very easy to do.

The firmware "hack" inlocks the variable ISO settings as well as unlocks ISO 3200. Take my XTi, it shares the same Digic II IP (image processor) that the 30D has. It is simply a program/firmware that will unlock the features that are already built into your camera that your particular hardware can handle. So then, for each camera model, they simply allow or lock out certain features particular to that camera. They also write ONE program for the chip that dictates the features that the chip will have. One thing to keep in mind is that when Canon makes thier Digic image processors, they make ONE chip for all of thier cameras. Just thought I might point out this as it unlockes a few features that some of the newer cameras have to offer and it might save a reader some money on a new body to be able to spend on a new lens or such.Ĭanon Xti (advanced features unlocked) and T1i with Canon 70mm - 300mm IS USM lensĪs no one is mentioning how one hacks, I'm guessing it's not kosher? If it is, how exactly does one do it? Thanks, Lepewhi

still plenty of life left on it.Īnother benefit is that once you take out the CF card that carries the crack and either format it or install a new CF your camera goes back to Firmware 1.1.1 I found out that my camera has 9,096 acuatations on it. I bought mine used last year and had no idea how many pictures had been taken. The hack unlocked the "Factory Menu" where one can test thier camera and also get the shutter release number for thier camera. It allows spot metering also like the 30D. It increased the ISO from 1600 to 3200 with varients in between, like 180, 5. It took a bit to understand the instructions, but after a couple of trials and errors, I was able to figure out what they were saying and got it to work, perfectly. One only has to Google the hack request and it should take them to the site where it can be downloaded. (I did not post the link as I did not know if it was allowed by site rules) I installed it and it unlocked some decent potential for my current XTi. I downloaded the hack that is offered for the XTi.
I think Canon did a great job with this camera, they addressed all the complaints / problems / concerns people had with the 300D.ĮOS 30D +350Dx2 + BG-E2+BG-E3 +18-55MkII + EF 70-300IS/USM+EF 75-300IIusm +Sigma 50-500DG +Tamron SP90 f2.I am sure this subject has been discussed here several times, but I have noticed a few threads asking (myself included) the advantages (if any) of upgrading thier cameras to a newer body.
I doubt we will see any hacks for the 350D/XT, it so close in alot of ways to the 20D theres not much point. But in life you need to learn the limitations of things and work within them.Īs for the "hack" well Nick has out-lined a way of getting what your friend wants out of the 350D/XT, it's not quite the same but it's a workable way around things. But we all have budgets to live by (certainly I do, I'd love a higher end camera than the 350D) and we all want the best. A bike is cheaper than a car, it will still get you places but it's not able to do what a car does. If something doesn't suit your needs or is not able to do what you want it to, then no matter what the price is it's not good value. Thats a good reason, but only if the 350D does what you need it to.
